Ubisoft teased us with the fact that the next installment in the Assassin's Creed series would feature multiplayer, and left us hanging with little details. A little more information was made available with an investors conference where Ubisoft CEO made a couple statements about the upcoming game. A continuation of Assassin's Creed II (which has sold 8 million copies to date), the third game will follow Ezio as he travels to Rome to take on the Knights Templar.
"There has been a lot of excitement around the next installment of [the] Assassin's Creed franchise," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guilletmot told investors. "What we can say today is that it marks the return of the now legendary Ezio, but this time he will strike directly at the heart of the Templars order in Rome. In addition to this full new adventure, players will also be able to challenge their friends in a very innovative assassination multiplayer."
Guilletmot couldn't be pressed for more input on the multiplayer, but he stated that most games today generally come with cooperative multiplayer elements.

Assassin's Creed II has already sold over 1.6 million copies, and now it's releasing again for the PC. The PC release for the sequel was delayed in September 2009 in order to ensure "a bit more time for the dev team to deliver the best quality game to you." The wait is over, and for $59.99 ($64.99 for the Black Edition) you can pick up your PC version, including the two DLC, on March 16th.

Unisoft recently revealed in financial statements that the latest in the line of Assassin's Creed video games would be available by April 2011. The new "Assassin's Creed III" will include multiplayer play (a first for the series) and will follow Ezio's story after the events of Assassin's Creed II.
It's not entirely surprising that Ubisoft is moving quickly on this Assassin's Creed III with recent figures that Assassin's Creed II had sold over 6 million units. There had been previous speculation that a new Assassin's Creed would follow the story of a female assassin. The upcoming game in the trilogy will be a full-version game and not add-on content to AC2, and according to CEO Yves Guillemot will be sold at a "full price point".
November was a big month for blockbuster video titles, and Assassin's Creed II wasn't left behind in the madness. According to Ubisoft, the anticipated Assassin's Creed sequel sold 1.6 million units in its first week, and a 32% increase over the launch week of its predecessor. While not on par with the Modern Warfare 2 release, it's definitely an impressive start.
The game has scored impressively with critics and has a Metascore of 91 based on 43 critic reviews. There are many new gameplay elements, a deep story filled with conspiracy, and of course, stealthy, clever assassinations.
Assassin's Creed II is available for the PS3, Xbox 360, and will be available at a later date for the PC.
Ubisoft and Penguin books announced an upcoming novel tie-in to the Assassin's Creed games. Assassin's Creed Renaissance is based on upcoming Assassin's Creed II. Renaissance is the story of a Ezio's epic quest for vengeance, and an epic story of power, revenge and conspiracy.
Assassin's Creed II will be available for PS3, Xbox 360 on November 17th (November 20th for the UK) with the PC version releasing in 2010.
The UK pre-order site for Assassin's Creed II has detailed two limited editions; the Black Ultimate Edition and the Limited Edition White Collection. It seems the U.S. might not see the same goodies as the UK; the U.S. site lists a Limited Run Assassin’s Creed II Master Assassin’s Edition. Amazon lists Black Editions for PS3 and Xbox 360 but they are currently unavailable.
The Black Ultimate Edition, a Play.com UK exclusive, will be available for the PS3 and PC, and includes the rarest premiums including 3 in-game bonus quests, exclusive development team insight in the Conspiracy, and a figure of Ezio with an upgraded cloak.
Features
The Limited Edition White Collection (UK) is quite a bit lighter than the Black Ultimate Edition, and will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Features:
A Limited Run Assassin’s Creed II Master Assassin’s Edition is listed for the U.S. as a Gamestop exclusive that will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 (while supplies last) and will include:
The U.S. Limited Run Assassin's Creed II Master Assassin's Edition is available at Gamestop for the PS3 and Xbox 360 for $79.99. The UK Black Edition is listed for £69.99 for the PS3, and £59.99 for the PC and is a Play.com UK exclusive. The UK White Edition is available for £59.99 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Assassin's Creed II will be available on November 17th, 2009 (November 20th, 2009 for the UK) for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with the PC version releasing at a later date. Play.com UK lists their Black Edition PC version with a release date of February 26th, 2010.
Amazon is also offering a $10 video games credit with Assassin's Creed II Pre-Orders.
Another sad tale of a release pushback. Ubisoft has announced that the PC version (and only the PC version) of Assassin's Creed II will be delayed.
The same old song and dance with Ubisofts short and sweet statement that the delay is to ensure "a bit more time for the dev team to deliver the best quality game to you."
Seems to be a lot of this going around in the video game industry.
No word on when it will be available, however console users need not worry, Assassin's Creed II is still on target for its November 17, 2009 release date for them.
