Batman Arkham Asylum will be getting a Game of the Year Edition with 3D. And it is now confirmed that the previously European/Australian exclusive, will be coming to us here in North America.
The enhanced, Game of the Year edition of Batman comes with TriOviz 3D support for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The TriOviz 3D works on high-definition televisions by "leveraging depth-of-field" . The GOTY edition will also come with Batman or Joker themed 3D glasses. It also comes packed with 6 maps for the European edition and 4 maps for North America
European edition maps:
Scarecrow Nightmare Challenge Map
Crime Alley Challenge Map
Prey in the Darkness Map Pack (2 Maps)
Insane Night Map Pack (2 maps)
It's uncertain which four maps will be included in the North American version, but some are guessing it won't include the Prey in the Darkness map pack since it was a PS3 exclusive.
It will be available on March 16th for Europe (pre-order £30.99 on Amazon UK, £25.99 for the PC version) and May 11th for North America.

Rumor has it that Batman's Boy Wonder will be making an appearance in the sequel to last year's hit, Batman Arkham Asylum. According to IMDB's initial listing for Batman: Arkham Asylum II Vincent Martella is listed as doing the voice for Robin. Vincent Martella played Greg in 2005-2009's Everybody Hates Chris and is listed as the voice of Young Jason Todd/Robin in upcoming Batman: Under the Red Hood.
When asked about the IMDB listing by Kotaku, Warner Bros. reps responded with, "To our knowledge, what you asked about is inaccurate information. We are not yet discussing details for the sequel."
Batman Arkham Asylum 2 was announced with a teaser trailer at Spike's Video Game Awards. The game will supposedly take place outside of Arkham Asylum in the streets, alleys and undergrounds of Gotham City itself and may feature return badguy and Batman arch-nemesis The Joker, and Two-Face.
According to a breakdown of the trailer by MTV Multiplayer, other probable villains may include:
Black Mask (AKA Roman Sionis)
Batman's go-to gangster villain was one of the clues in the first game (his mask was hiding in the doctor's office), but the giant Sionis sign seen in the trailer seems to imply that he'll play a much bigger role this time around.
Penguin
The Iceberg Lounge, the Penguin's Antarctic-themed restuarant, is seen as the trailer zooms through the streets of Gotham. Expect Chester Cobblepot to make a healthy showing.
Killer Croc, Scarecrow or Bane?
The end of "Arkham Asylum" featured a teaser showing one of these three baddies reaching out of the murky depths to grab on to a box of the super Titan juice. The ending changed depending on your performance, but Rocksteady definitely left things open for any or all of these fine fellows to return.

DC Direct has unveiled a figurine based on the Batman: Arkham Asylum model of the dark knight himself. The figurine will be available in September 2010 and will retail for about $80.
The collectible figurine will stand 7.25" tall and will be one of figures in DC Direct's "Black & White" series that will also features pieces based on Batman designs from the likes of Mike Mignola (A Death in the Family, Gotham by Gaslight) and Paul Pope ("Berlin Batman"). The upcoming figurine was sculpted using actual game models.

It seems exclusive content really might win the race. Batman: Arkham Asylum, released in August, has sold 10,000 more units for PS3 than Xbox 360. Most cross-platform major titles typically are lead by Xbox 360 sales, such as Modern Warfare 2.
According to Electronic Entertainment Design and Research Analyst, Jesse Divnich: "With Batman, the evidence is clear, getting exclusivity on content can play a large role in driving sales to your console," he stated in an interview with IGN. "In fact, if you calculate the additional sales the PS3 version received, extrapolate that worldwide, Sony likely generated an additional $2 million in royalty revenue from this exclusive content."
He also notes that the only multi-platform title that's close between the two systems is Street Fighter IV, and cites that the PS3 controller is much friendlier for fighting games as a likely reason, but says the Xbox 360 version is still in the lead.
Batman: Arkham Asylum features PS3 exclusives such as "Play as Joker" and exclusive DLC "Prey in the Darkness".
It seems odd to think that for once Japan didn't get an awesome video game months ahead of the rest of the world. Eidos announced that Batman: Arkham Asylum would be coming to Japan on January 14, 2010.
Many video gamers throughout the years watched games like Final Fantasy release in Japan months ahead of the U.S. and come with awesome bonus goodies. In fact, I believe Japan is getting something of a little FINAL FANTASY XIII PS3?
Japan may not get the cool batarang that came with the Batman: Arkham Asylum bundle, but they will be getting the DLC...months after the rest of the world has beaten it over, and over, and over again.
Tomorrow's second free DLC for Batman Arkham Aslyum will be available exclusively for the PS3. It will feature two new maps, Heart of Darkness where Batman will battle hordes of Joker's baddies at the Arkham Pumping Station, and HotHouse Prey Invisible Predator map where players will have to rely on their Predator instincts to take down enemies at the Abandoned Glasshouse.
"The new content will be available beginning September 24th in North America as a free download exclusively on the PlayStation Network," Eidos explained in a joint statement with Warner Bros. "Outside of North America, the Prey in the Darkness Map Pack will be available on both PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Marketplace."
The DLC is available tomorrow, September 24th, and will be available for PS3 ONLY in the United States, and PS3 and Xbox 360 in Europe.
After the PC release of Batman Arkham Asylum last week, Eidos announced today that it has sold 2.5 million copies (among all platforms). Before the PC release of the game it was at nearly 2 million sales.
Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment gives credit to the multi-award winning game. "The tremendous critical and commercial success of Batman: Arkham Asylum sets a new benchmark for superhero games." "Rocksteady Studios created an excellent game and the sales numbers demonstrate how a powerful franchise fused with high-quality production resonates with consumers."
Batman Arkham Asylum was released for Xbox 360 and PS3 the end of August, with the PC version releasing last week. There are already two DLC for Batman, "Insane Night" which released last Thursday and "Prey of Darkness" which will be available this Thursday, September 24th.
Batman: Arkham Asylum "Insane Night" DLC will give players two new challenge maps, "Totally Insane" and "Nocturnal Predator". Totally Insane is a FreeFlow combat map where Batman will be forced to take down hordes of Arkham inmates as they try to escape through the secure records room. Nocturnal Predator is an Invisible Hunter map in which players use stealth mode to take out one of Joker's toughest armies.
Insane Night is free and will be available to download on Thurs. September 17th for all platforms (PS3, Xbox 360, PC). The second announced DLC, Prey of Darkness, will be available on September 24th, with no more details as of this moment.
Batman: Arkham Asylum has sold nearly 2 million copies since its release on August 25th for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The PC version of the game is not even available yet (it releases this week).
This Guinness World Record holder is a sure sign of a turnaround for DC Comics and Warner Brothers who have lagged behind rival Marvel in movie and video game success. Even with the success of The Dark Knight (the fourth grossing film of all time), DC/WB has not been able to match the A-list superheroes of Marvel such as the Spider-man, Iron Man and X-Men movies. With Disney's recent acquisition of Marvel, DC/WB will face even stiffer competition. Their own costly Superman movie and Razzie award-winning Catwoman have been considered flops.
DC Comics will be restructured and has brought new brand manager, Diane Nelson to be in charge of DC Entertainment with a mandate to better exploit its properties across the studio's movie, television, interactive, digital and consumer products businesses.
Reports of new Batman Arkham Asylum DLC surfaced last week, but nobody knew what they would entail. SCEE's Mike Kebby let the cat out of the bag on the Playstation Blog and announced there would be two DLC coming in the next two weeks titled "Insane Night" and "Prey in the Darkness".
"Insane Night" will be multi-platform and released on September 17th, with "Prey in the Darkness" available on September 24. This dispels rumors that the DLC would be pre-order bonuses "Dem Bones" and "Crime Alley", but little is still known what these free DLC will offer. Rumor has it that they may be additional challenge maps. (Update: The first DLC is confirmed free, the second has an unknown price tag)
One dimwitted pirate has been caught red handed with an illegal copy of Batman Arkham Asylum for PC after posting reports of game glitches to the Eidos forum.
User Cheshirec_the_cat wrote: "I've got a problem when it's time to use Batman's glide in the game. When I hold "," like it's said to jump from one platform to another, Batman tries to open his wings again and again instead of gliding. So he fels down in a poisoning gas. If somebody could tel me, what should I do there."
Whoops. Batman Arkham Asylum for PC was not released with its fellow Xbox 360 and PS3 versions in order to do more work for the PhysX graphics. It's scheduled release is next week on September 15. After another user reminded Cheshirec_the_cat that the PC version wasn't yet available, administrator Keir took the time to explain: "The problem you have encountered is a hook in the copy protection, to catch out people who try and download cracked versions of the game for free," he wrote. "It's not a bug in the game's code, it's a bug in your moral code."
Batman won't just fall into gas when you pick up your legitimate PC version next week.
Batman Arkham Asylum has gained a new Guinness World Record as the 'Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever'. Batman has gained this title due its Metacritic score of 91.67. This beats previous record holder Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the Sega Dreamcast which had an average score of 90.
Gaz Deaves, Manager at Guinness stated "We are so pleased to be awarding Batman: Arkham Asylum a Guinness World Record. It is a fantastic new game and due to the reaction of gaming experts we believe it has a well deserved place in the Guinness World Records book."
Metacritic is a website that reviews music, games, movies, TV shows and DVDs. They compile reviews from other respected critics and publications, giving different weight to different reviewers (based on their stature). Metacritic then combines the scores into an overall grade in percentage levels instead of the typical "star rating" system.
Now PC users won't have to put off upgrading their video card in order to play Batman Arkham Asylum. When you upgrade your card you get a coupon for a free download of the game!
The promotion applies to GeForce GTX 260, the GTX 275 and the GTX 285. Players will need a PhysX enabled video card in order to play Batman Arkham Asylum.
The PC release of the game has been pushed back to September 15, 2009, while it's Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts will release this coming week on August 25.
PSN users got a surprise with the early release of the Batman: Arkham Asylum demo last night. The demo became available today for Xbox 360 and PC (PhysX enabled demo).
Other new content on the PSN includes demos for Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic, Crystal Defenders (a Final Fantasy themed tower defense game, full version also available for $10) and Worms.
A third map pack for Call of Duty: World at War is also available for $10.
Batman Arkham Asylum's PC release is being delayed again according to Eidos. The game delay is in order to implement Nvidia's PhysX technology which will allow for "volumetric fog" that reacts to Batman's movements, cobwebs that tear as he passes, and matter and debris to be kicked up while he is fighting.
Fear not, PC Batman fans, the demo is still on schedule to be released tomorrow (August 7th).
Fans can get a taste of the upcoming Batman: Arkham Asylum this Friday with a demo available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The demo will offer the "FreeFlow" combat system and Batman's stealth capabilities.
The full version is due out August 25th in the U.S. and will be available for PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC.
