Netflix is on a roll lately, securing its streaming service on the Playstation 3, and upcoming service for the Nintendo Wii, on top of its availability on the Xbox 360 and Internet TV's. What could possibly be next for Netflix now that they've conquered every possible outlet for their service? The Nintendo DS is a likely possibility according to a customer survey.
A tip provided to Kotaku suggests that Netflix is considering adding its streaming service for the Nintendo DS over WiFi. If this were true people would be able to stream movies where ever they are as long as they have access to WiFi internet. This could mean airports, offices, or parked outside of McDonalds.
The survey asks, "Imagine that Netflix offers its subscribers the ability to instantly watch movies and & TV episodes on their Nintendo DS. The selection available to instantly watch includes some new releases, lots of classics and TV episodes. There are no advertisements or trailers, and movies start in as little as 30 seconds. You can fast-forward, rewind, and pause or watch again. The movies & TV episodes you instantly watch are included in your Netflix membership at no additional fee."
This could prove especially popular with the impending release of the DSi XL which features a much larger screen and longer battery life than that of its predecessors.

They say, "never go full HD", but Netflix paid no heed to the warnings and announced today that their Instant Watch streaming service would be going FULL HD. For people with PS3's, Xbox 360's, and internet capable televisions, this means you can enjoy movies and shows in full 1080p and 5:1 surround sound.
As expected, initial offerings in full HD will be scarce as only 6% of their current library supports this quality. The full HD streaming will be available later this year.
Netflix Instant Streaming is coming for the Wii this Spring. Netflix subscribers will be receiving instant streaming discs similar to what was released for the PS3 last year. The discs are required because of an exclusivity agreement for the Xbox 360 (integrated streaming services won't be coming to the PS3 until
later this year, and has not been announced for the Wii). The streaming disc for Wii can be reserved right away for current Netflix subscribers.
According to Nintendo, "These titles will be conveniently organized into a variety of categories based on members' personal preferences and will include popular genres, new arrivals and members' individual instant Queues... They will also have the ability to read synopses and rate movies, and will have the option of fast-forwarding and rewinding their selection."
Because the Wii does not support HD, content will be restricted to standard definition. Netflix had discussed towards the end of 2009 wanting to be available for all gaming systems and internet capable televisions this year. No details are currently available on when the discs will ship.

If you're streaming Netflix from your freshly obtained PS3 instant streaming disc, you better hold on to it. Netflix's Steve Swasey stated in an interview that the only way to get Netflix on your PS3 is the disc, and it's going to be that way for a year.
"Late next year we expect to have an embedded solution available for PS3s via a system software update slated for release through the PlayStation Network," he said. "Until then, enjoy watching instantly via your PS3 using the instant streaming disc!"
Until then, handle your streaming disc with love and care.
The Netflix Instant Streaming disc for PS3 became available the beginning of November and allows PS3 owners to insert the disc and access Netflix Instant Watch content.
It seems Netflix is making good on their word that their Instant Watch Streaming Service would be coming to PS3's in November. The discs should be arriving to current Netflix members tomorrow. A note from Netflix arrived in my inbox today announcing the PS3 Instant Streaming Disc I requested will be arriving on Friday, November 6th. It was announced last week that Netflix members could access the instant streaming service on their PS3 via an Instant Streaming Disc.

The Instant Streaming Disc will be a necessary part of the service until 2010 when Netflix can begin work on a dedicated application on the Playstation Network.
Netflix officially announced a partnership with Sony to bring its "watch instantly" service to the Playstation 3. The service is expected to begin next month and will come at no extra cost to existing Netflix customers.
"The PlayStation 3 system has always been about more than just gaming, and it will soon be the only platform in the industry to offer consumers such a variety of convenient options for enjoying movies and TV shows," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. "Whether you want to watch content on Blu-ray disc and DVD, download it from the PlayStation Network's video delivery service, or stream videos instantly from Netflix, the PS3 system is the only solution that offers it all."
"As instantly watching movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix becomes an increasingly popular way to enjoy the Netflix service, our goal is to rapidly expand the devices that stream to our members," said Netflix CEO and co-founder Reed Hastings. "As a leading game console and Blu-ray disc player, bringing Netflix to the PS3 system is a real win for both Netflix members and PS3 system owners."

Movies will be made available by a free, instant streaming Blu-ray disc that's available to all Netflix members. This will leverage Blu-ray's BD-Live technology to access the Internet and activate the Netflix user interface on the PS3 system with an active internet connection. Member's simply insert the disc into their PS3 to show which movies and television shows are available for streaming. Along with being able to select content to watch, users are also able to add movies and television shows to their queue. Users can also use their PS3 controllers to fast forward and rewind.
Current Netflix account holders and PS3 owners can request their free instant streaming disc at http://www.netflix.com/InstantStreamingDisc. If you're a PS3 owner and aren't a Netflix member, their plans begin at $8.99 a month.
Netflix stocks began to soar on Friday after officials announced that their "watch instantly" service would be coming to a new device and potentially bringing waves of new customers. Netflix predicts it will attract 900,000 to 1.2 million more customers in the fourth quarter. The stocks jumped over $4.00 during trading on Friday, which was a new peak for Netflix since its public offering in 2002.
Netflix currently has an exclusive deal with Microsoft to stream their "watch instantly" service through Xbox 360s. Analysts are already placing bets on the new device being either the Wii or Playstation 3 after statements made last month by Netflix CEO that: "Eventually we want to be on all the game consoles, all the Blu-ray players, all the Internet TVs."
With their subscription forecast for Q4, we could see the service appear on the device in the next couple weeks.
Netflix account holders can currently take advantage of an exclusive deal between Xbox and Netflix to stream movies through their Xbox 360 console. That may change in the future.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings told Reuters, "Eventually we want to be on all the game consoles, all the Blu-ray players, all the Internet TVs." "So we are working in parallel with all of those efforts. Currently our Xbox deal is exclusive and we haven't characterized it more than that."
They are currently focused on eventually expanding to the TV's, Blu-ray and consoles, and may even have plans after conquering those to expand to mobile streaming.
