NetApp, Inc. has unveiled enhanced features for Google Cloud NetApp Volumes, a fully managed file storage solution aimed at simplifying cloud storage workloads and boosting performance. This service integrates seamlessly within the Google Cloud ecosystem.
Enhanced Capabilities for Cloud Storage
The updated NetApp Volumes will allow businesses to efficiently scale high-performance applications and databases, particularly those dealing with petabyte-scale datasets such as electronic design automation (EDA), artificial intelligence (AI), and content data repositories. The collaboration between NetApp and Google Cloud aims to facilitate intelligent data infrastructure, which breaks down silos and supports real-time integration across hybrid-cloud environments. This integration transforms raw data into actionable insights.
Pravjit Tiwana, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cloud Storage at NetApp, emphasized the significance of cloud services in leveraging AI for data-driven insights. He stated, “Our collaboration with Google Cloud is accelerating generative AI data pipelines by seamlessly integrating the latest AI innovations with the robust data management capabilities of NetApp ONTAP®. The new capabilities of NetApp Volumes help customers scale their cloud storage to meet the demands of modern, high-performance applications.”
New Features and Improvements
The following new capabilities will enhance scalability and performance for enterprise applications and databases:
- Integration with Google Cloud’s Vertex AI Platform: Users can access data stored in NetApp Volumes directly within the Vertex AI platform, enabling the creation of custom agents without building independent data management solutions.
- Performance Enhancements for Premium and Extreme Service Levels: Significant performance upgrades for large capacity volumes are now available across all 14 regions. Customers can begin with a single volume of 15TB and scale up to 1PB, achieving throughput rates of up to 30GB/s, which is essential for handling extensive workloads.
- Flex Service Level Improvements: This feature allows independent scaling of capacity and performance, optimizing costs by permitting users to create storage pools tailored to their specific requirements. Users can scale throughput to 5GB/s and IOPS to 160K.
- Support for Google Cloud Assured Workloads: NetApp Volumes will soon accommodate the Assured Workloads framework, enabling customers to configure and maintain environments that comply with specific regulatory standards.
Impact and Future Directions
Sameet Agarwal, Vice President and General Manager of Cloud Storage at Google, noted, “Simplified access to AI is a democratizing force enabling organizations to leverage their most critical asset – data – for a competitive edge.” The integration of NetApp ONTAP with Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform aims to support customers in accelerating their digital transformation efforts.
