The much-anticipated collector’s set featuring Toaplan games for the Genesis/Mega Drive has reopened for pre-orders after Retro-Bit resolved a licensing conflict. Initially, the set was halted shortly after its announcement due to complications regarding the game Twin Cobra (1991), which has now been removed from the collection. The updated offering includes Slap Fight MD (1993) and Grind Stormer (1994), both of which feature exclusive modes for the Genesis versions, unlike Twin Cobra.
Pricing and Availability
With the reduction from three games to two, the price for the collector’s set has decreased to $139.99 USD from the original $159.99 USD. Individual games are available for $59.99 USD each. Customers who pre-ordered and wish to keep Twin Cobra can request a refund, while those who are content with the remaining titles will have their existing pre-orders honored.
Collector’s Set Details
The packaging will remain consistent, featuring the Cosmic Flare cartridge for Slap Fight and the Crystal Shield cartridge for Grind Stormer, along with a full-color manual and slipcover. As a bonus, the set continues to include the Collector’s Clock, an interview booklet with Masahiro Yuge, and puffy stickers (excluding those for Twin Cobra). The box originally designated for Twin Cobra will now contain these extras alongside the two remaining games.
