Nintendo continues to invigorate the F-Zero franchise with exciting updates, recently launching Version 1.6.0 of its online battle royale game, F-Zero 99. Players can now download this update directly from their Nintendo Switch home menu.
New Features in Version 1.6.0 (Released April 22, 2025)
The latest patch introduces several key enhancements:
- Five Mirror Tracks from the Ace League: These tracks are integrated into various game modes including Pro Tracks, Team Battle, and Mini World Tour. The tracks feature mirrored layouts and rearranged gimmicks.
- Five Classic Tracks Added: These tracks have been reworked to reflect layouts from the BS F-ZERO GRAND PRIX Ace League, available in Classic game modes.
- Mini World Tour: This new event challenges players to seven consecutive races for ranking. The inaugural Mini World Tour commences on May 5, featuring a scoring system based on lap performance, KOs, and Gem Sparks collected. Players who rank 999th or higher will receive a special badge.
- Customization Options: Players can now customize machines with new decals and color options, which will unlock under certain conditions outlined in the Workshop menu.
- New Pilot Card Customizations: Added new backdrops, badges, and borders for further personalization of Pilot Cards, conditional on specific criteria.
Game Adjustments and Balancing
Version 1.6.0 also implements machine balance adjustments:
- The black machine color is now achievable by finishing in 1st place in select race types, while additional balance changes affect the repulsion of BLUE FALCON and GOLDEN FOX machines during collisions.
- Technical adjustments include a reduction in Super Sparks required for Super Boost activation, changes to the Skyway mechanics, and revised KO scoring dynamics.
- Classic race courses now include SILENCE, WHITE LAND II, and FIRE FIELD as new candidates.
Previous and Upcoming Developments
This update follows the improvements implemented in Version 1.5.6 released earlier in February 2025. Moreover, fans can anticipate the return of F-Zero GX on June 5, 2025, as part of the GameCube library for Switch Online subscribers, specifically at the ‘Expansion Pack’ tier.
With the introduction of mirror tracks, new machine colors, and the Mini World Tour event, F-Zero 99 seeks to enhance its competitive racing experience significantly.
