Call of Duty Black Ops Announced

Call of Duty: Black Ops was officially announced today by Treyarch, the studio responsible for Call of Duty: World at War. The latest game in the Call of Duty series will be released in November of 2010, but little is known about the setting or storyline in the game.

Speculation around the internet pins it down to take place in the Vietnam War era. The official website of Black Ops is running, but doesn’t offer indication that the rumors are true.

With Treyarch continuing to add to the Call of Duty lineup, there is hope that the brand can be kept alive in the midst of COD creator Infinity Ward’s slowly sinking ship. Since the ousting of IW leaders and a bitter lawsuit and countersuit between them and parent company Activision, the talent left at the studio has been rapidly exiting. The mass exodus totals are at least 26, with many of the former IW employees joining Jason West and Vincent Zampella at their new company, Respawn Entertainment.

Call of Duty: Black Ops will be released November 9, 2010. More details will be shared as they become available.
