Former Alienware Execs Start Origin, New PC Company

The purchase of the original gaming computers company, Alienware in 2006 by Dell, left a hole in the customizable PC market for hardcore gamers. Dell took the brand mainstream, lowering the options for customization and alienating a niche market of hardware buyers. Enter Origin PCs, a new company that custom-builds PCs.

Origin PCs is targeting this forgotten customer base with custom-builds and overclocking guarantees. Started by former Alienware execs, co-founders Hector Penton and Richard Cary left Dell earlier this year in the pursuit of this new business venture. According to CEO Kevin Wasielewski, “Many boutique computer makers have lost their way, forgetting what’s important to gamers and becoming just another corporate entity.” “The market was grown, and then vacated. We want to get back to our passion of building high-performance custom gaming machines.”

Besides custom components, Origin PCs also offers custom paint and airbrushing. The offerings are slim now, with one option for a desktop, The Genesis, and one laptop option, the EON18. The Genesis offers fully customizable casing, liquid cooling, and users’ choice in components with pricing starting at $1,699. The EON18 laptop is an 18″ laptop featuring an 18.4″ High-Definition LCD, built-in fingerprint reader and webcam, and nearly completely customizable innards with pricing starting at $2,599. Origin PCs also promises lifetime phone and online service, and free labor for the life of the Origin PC.
