The Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ) at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities has entered into an agreement with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to develop a next-generation supercomputer known as “Blue Lion.” This high-performance computer, slated to be operational by 2027, is set to advance research initiatives in Bavaria and will also support significant national scientific endeavors through the Gauss Center for Supercomputing (GCS). The contract, finalized on December 13, 2024, entails a total investment of 250 million euros, with funding provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) among other contributors.
