Ubisoft has shared new details about Assassin’s Creed Shadows through an official blog post. The announcement highlights the game’s progression system, mastery trees, and player abilities. Set for release on March 20, the game is now available for pre-order, which includes complimentary access to its upcoming expansion, Claws of Awaji.
Game Progression and Characters
Julien, the Associate Game Director, explained the design approach due to the inclusion of two distinct characters, Naoe and Yaskue, each with their unique archetypes within the setting of feudal Japan. The team aimed to adhere closely to the principles of mastery and martial arts in crafting the player progression system.
Mastery Trees
Players can invest in multiple Mastery trees specific to each character, enhancing their unique weapons and archetypes. These trees are designed to allow players to refine existing skills, learn new combos, and improve weapon effectiveness, which is crucial as the difficulty of combat escalates.
For instance, Yasuke can allocate points into his samurai training, enabling him to switch weapons mid-combo, showcasing the depth each character’s skill tree offers in gameplay.
Gaining Mastery Points
Character progression is tied to earning Mastery points, which is achieved by completing quests and various activities throughout the game world. Additionally, defeating specific enemies will also reward players with Mastery points, further enhancing the gameplay experience.
Knowledge Utility and Loot System
The blog post further discusses Knowledge utility and the equipment mechanics present in the game. Players can expect to gather a variety of gear sets for both Naoe and Yasuke. Loot can be acquired from chests or obtained from fallen enemies, with a focus on randomization to create unique discovery experiences for players.
Community Reception
Ubisoft has been consistently updating fans through these blog posts, catering to both those curious about the game and those eagerly anticipating its release. As the release date approaches, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has emerged as one of the more debated titles within the franchise, eliciting varied reactions across the gaming community.
