EA Closing Multiplayer Servers for Old Sports Titles

Many older EA (mostly sports) titles will have their multiplayer servers shutdown as early as next month, according to a press release earlier. The server closures will affect 20 games in the EA lineup. Owners will still be able to play the games up until the February 2, 2010 cutoff date, though some titles may close down earlier. Multiplayer closures are not always uniform for platforms either, for example the NBA 07 servers will continue to run for PlayStation 3 after EA shuts down the Xbox 360 and PSP’s.

EA warns of such events on the back of the game boxes, stating: “EA may retire online features after 30 days notice posted on www.ea.com” and “or 30 days after the last day of the XXXX-XXXX NFL season” on the Madden NFL series.
